Beginnings Maternity Center

This 59-bed unit provides a range of care for antepartum high-risk, labor-delivery and post-partum patients. The Beginnings Maternity Center has a newborn nursery, an eight-bed triage unit and two cesarean units.

Cardiac Heart Failure Medical

This is a step-down unit for patients who require medical telemetry for conditions like unstable angina, congestive heart failure or myocardial infarction. Along with telemetry, treatment methods may also include cardiac education and Cardizem, Natrecor or Amiodarone drips. Nurses are provided with EKG training, CVL respiratory classes and ACLS for RNs.

Cardiac/Pulmonary/Renal

Cardiac/Pulmonary/Renal is a 31-bed telemetry unit that has ventilator capabilities. Services provided here include telemetry, ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP, extensive pulmonary toileting and peritoneal dialysis.

Cardiac Surgical Telemetry

The nurses in the Cardiac Surgical Telemetry Unit provide post-surgical care for open heart and general thoracic surgery patients. Nurses on this unit have special EKG training, along with a Cardiac and Pulmonary Modules of Critical Care Course and ACLS certification.

Cardiac Vascular Interventional Radiology

The Cardiac Vascular Interventional Radiology Division includes specialized patient service areas such as cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, interventional neuroradiology, peripheral angiography, transesophageal echo and a 35-bed Prep and Recovery Unit. Nurses in this fast-paced environment partner with physicians and other healthcare providers to learn new technologies and apply advanced assessment skills.

Center for Pain Management

Reading Hospital's Center for Pain Management provides a comprehensive range of treatments for non-malignant chronic pain. Treatment methods and procedures include injection of steroids or other medications, physical therapy, neurolysis, biofeedback and medication management.

Emergency Department

Reading Hospital's Emergency Department has 80 beds and is made up of several patient care areas: triage, acute care, trauma, intermediate and fast track. The department sees over 125,000 patients annually. Here, a full multidisciplinary team of experts, including RNs, providers, medics, patient care assistants, case management, guest services assistants, unit clerks and leadership, collaborates to deliver excellent outcomes for our patients. Advantages include patients being greeted by a nurse first, as well as a fully automated EMR that is integrated with the inpatient documentation system for easier and safe handoff.

General Medicine

Our General Medical units consist of a 33-bed adult medical unit (NSGE-2) and a 39-bed unit (NSG E-3). Both are fast-paced environments, telemetry capable and with all private rooms. On these units, you will be offered continuing education to support your practice and will participate in the unit's shared governance. Diagnoses treated in the General Medical units include pneumonia and other lung ailments, gastrointestinal bleeds, pancreatic and kidney disorders, diabetes, deep vein thrombosis, drug and alcohol withdrawal, cellulitis and wound infections.

General Surgery

This 37-bed unit focuses on the care of post-surgical patients. In the General Surgery Unit, nurses care for patients who have undergone bariatric surgeries, epidurals, Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA), general surgeries and much more. This is a fast-paced unit with relatively high patient turnover rate.

IV Team

The IV Team provides care to all patients receiving IV therapy utilizing INS standards and CDC guidelines. The team's scope of care includes all aspects of IV Therapy, including bedside PICC insertions.

Medical

This is our newest Medical-Surgical Unit. Medical C1S has 27 private rooms that are equipped with bedside staff workstations and computers. This unit serves our post-op GYN population, as well as our adolescent and geriatric medical patients.

Medical Intensive Care

Medical Intensive Care handles cases that require special monitoring and observation. MICU nurses often work with patients who have cardiac, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, neurological or renal conditions.

Neonatal Intensive Care

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a 30-bed, Level II/III unit responsible for treating extremely premature to full-term infants who require more than normal newborn care. The NICU is equipped with oscillators and ventilators to provide respiratory support and 24-hour respiratory coverage.

Oncology

Oncology nurses care for patients who have a primary and/or secondary diagnosis of cancer and require treatment of chronic and episodic illness, therapeutic interventions and side effect management. Care is also provided to patients in the terminal phase of illness with focus on end-of-life care, hospice care and palliative care. All RNs working on N3S complete specialty training in the administration of chemotherapy and the care of oncology patients.

Operating Room

Our 25-room Operating Room suite is equipped for a variety of highly specialized surgeries. Here, you will find a perioperative services division staffed with caring, hardworking individuals who are engaged and excited about the future. We are building a new 466,00-square-foot clinical building on our West Reading campus. This facility will feature hybrid operating rooms that support both traditional and minimally invasive procedures that use imaging and the daVinci Surgical System.

Orthopaedic Services

Orthopaedic Services is home to Reading's Joint Care Center and our Orthopaedic Unit. The unit specializes in the treatment of orthopaedic injuries like hip and ankle fractures, lumbar laminectomies and ACL repairs.

Pediatrics

Pediatrics is a 19-bed patient care unit that treats newborns through teenagers. This unit has cardio-respiratory monitoring capability, and comprehensive care is achieved through our Collaborative Nursing Model.

Psychiatry (Spruce Pavilion)

The Spruce Pavilion is an acute care inpatient psychiatric facility that offers care to adolescent, adult and geriatric clients. Our programs are highly diversified and utilize multiple modalities and groups. These groups use dual diagnosis, education, relaxation, sensory integration and physical fitness.

Stroke Unit

Our 33-bed Stroke Unit has been recognized by the American Heart Association for the past four years for meeting quality standards and has been awarded the Stroke Center of Excellence distinction. Our staff provides high-quality care to patients with stroke, seizure and other neuro/medical concerns. All RNs complete NIHSS certification.

Surgical Intensive Care

Nurses in Surgical Intensive Care work with patients who have acute conditions related to cardiothoracic, neurosurgical, abdominal, gynecological and vascular surgeries. New graduates entering Surgical Intensive Care are eligible to take part in the Critical Care Internship Program. This internship program incorporates an AACN-approved Critical Care Course, as well as an extensive individualized and unit-based orientation.

The Reading Hospital at Spring Ridge

This 25,000-square-foot facility is a multispecialty ambulatory surgery center. Our nurses provide perioperative care for patients undergoing outpatient surgery. The SurgiCenter has eight technologically advanced surgical suites, 12 preoperative bays, 19 postoperative bays and a special procedure room.

Reading Rehabilitation Hospital

Reading Rehabilitation Hospital is a 62-bed comprehensive physical rehabilitation unit. Nurses provide acute inpatient medical rehabilitation services to patients with functional impairments as a result of various diagnoses, including stroke, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, multiple trauma, orthopaedic conditions, amputations and other disabling conditions.

Transitional Care Center at Reading Rehabilitation Hospital

The Transitional Care Center is a fully-licensed and regulated, 50-bed, short-term-stay, skilled nursing care unit. Nurses care for patients with problems relating to post-hospital medical and surgical needs, including rehabilitation, generalized weakness, cardiopulmonary conditions, wound care, diabetic monitoring and education and post orthopaedic/ surgical procedures.
