Community at Reading Hospital

For over 145 years, Reading Hospital has been committed to improving the health and well-being of our neighbors throughout the Berks County region. We address issues that impact the quality of life for those around us, helping our neighbors experience better health at every stage of their lives. In our last fiscal year, we contributed more than $182 million for the benefit of the communities we serve. Here are several examples.

Improving the Community's Health

We offer education, service and outreach to promote health and healing, provide free screenings and immunizations, and advance self-care by increasing healthcare knowledge.

Employee Volunteerism

Volunteers from Reading Hospital are a caring presence throughout the community. Last fall, staff members donated their time to paint the fa├žade of row homes through West Reading's Let's Paint the Town initiative.

Friends Who Care

The Friends of Reading Hospital consists of more than 1,200 individuals who raise money through our gift shops, as well as Garden Party, Road Run and Tower Golf Classic events.

Drive-Thru Flu Vaccines

During our first-ever drive-thru flu vaccine event, nearly 1,000 vaccines were distributed at no cost to drivers and their passengers. We also provided free flu vaccinations to 1,200 individuals in traditional settings.

Turkeys and School Supplies

We've donated turkeys for families in need, as well as school supplies. We've also collected books for a reading initiative, supported a toy and clothing drive, and participated at an award-winning level in the United Way campaign.

Outreach for the Most Vulnerable

Our Outpatient Social Worker visits high-risk individuals, providing structured case management through short-term supportive counseling, links to other agencies and health status checks.
