Physician Assistant - Orthopedic Surgery Services

Reading Hospital is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join our Orthopedic Surgery team and function in the role of a clinical expert in the care of fracture and other orthopedic injuries from admission through discharge and outpatient follow-up. This team member will work collaboratively with Trauma Service and Orthopedic surgeons, multidisciplinary health professionals, various hospital departments, nursing service and medical staff in coordinating and delivering patient care and facilitating communication between the patient and family members. The Physician Assistant is involved in performance improvement to ensure quality patient care and best practices.

Call schedule requirements: 1:5 weekends

Position Requirements

Duties to include:

  • Perform daily rounds on fracture and other orthopedic traumatic injury patients to review and organize results of clinical data in preparation for physician evaluation.
  • Assist in OR when needed or when floor work is controlled and cross cover for N5 South PA when on vacation.
  • Perform pre-operative consultations, pre-admission history and physicals, and emergent evaluation and management services.
  • Coordinate and support all hospital privileged Orthopedic surgeons working on the Orthopedic floor or in the Emergency Department.
  • Complete assessments on patients, electronically chart daily progress notes, review diagnostic studies and formulate diagnoses and therapeutic plans of care for acute and non-acute patients.
  • Communicate with patient and family members to explain injuries and options for treatment.
  • Act as a liaison for physicians, ancillary staff, trauma team, nursing services and private practices to ensure prompt and optimum delivery of patient care services.
